Getting started
Install vsdx.app on your Mac and open your first Visio diagram in a few minutes.
What is vsdx.app?
vsdx.app is a native Mac diagram editor that opens, edits, and saves Microsoft Visio .vsdx files directly. There is no conversion step and no browser tab: you double-click a .vsdx file and it opens in a real Mac app, built with Swift and AppKit.
If you have used Visio on Windows, the layout will feel familiar. The ribbon has Home, Insert, Design, Arrange, and View tabs, the shapes panel sits on the left, and page tabs run along the bottom. The icons and colors are our own, but the way you work is the same, so you can be productive right away.
vsdx.app works offline. The only feature that needs an internet connection is AI diagram generation.
Not a Microsoft product
vsdx.app is an independent app and is not affiliated with Microsoft. Microsoft and Visio are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
System requirements
- A Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later
- An internet connection for downloading, signing in, and AI generation
vsdx.app is Mac-only. There is no Windows or web version.
Download and install
vsdx.app is distributed only from our website. It is not on the Mac App Store.
- Go to vsdx.app/download and download the
.dmgfile. - Open the downloaded
.dmg. - Drag the vsdx icon into your Applications folder.
- Eject the disk image. You can delete the
.dmgafterwards.
The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS will let it run. If you see a warning that the app can't be opened, see the FAQ.
First launch
Open vsdx from your Applications folder or Launchpad. You can then:
- Open an existing file with ⌘O, or drag a
.vsdxfile onto the app icon in the Dock. - Create a new drawing with ⌘N, either blank or from a built-in template.
- Sign in using the Sign in button if you have a paid plan. Sign-in happens in your browser and you are sent straight back to the app. No API key or extra setup is needed.
The app follows your system language (English or Simplified Chinese). To change it, open Preferences (⌘,) and go to General > Language. vsdx.app also follows your system's light or dark appearance.
Free vs paid
The download is free, and viewing files doesn't require an account. The free version lets you view, print, and share files and export them as PDF or PNG; editing, saving, SVG export, and AI need a paid plan.
